Die Seelen im Feuer

Neulich wurde im Fernsehen dieser Film „Die Seelen im Feuer“ gezeigt, der auf Tatsachenberichten basiert. Im Anschluss an den Film wurde eine Dokumentation dazu gezeigt. Ich habe mir beides angeschaut und war danach erst einmal sprachlos und entsetzt geschockt. Was mich am Meisten schockierte war die Tatsache, dass dieser Hexenwahn und -Verfolgung nicht im tiefsten, dunkelsten Mittelalter passierte, wie ich es seither im Gedächtnis hatte, sondern 100 Jahre nach Luther.

Wie konnte das nur sein? Das war doch Luthers größtes Anliegen gewesen, den Menschen Gottes Wort zu übersetzen, damit jeder es lesen und danach gehen konnte, wie konnte solche Unaufgeklärtheit in einem Zeitalter das später die Bezeichnung die „Aufklärung“ bekam, trotzdem in solch einem Ausmaß passieren? War das so was wie eine „jetzt erst recht“ Reaktion zu Luthers Aufdeckung nicht schriftgemäßer Dogmen und Praktiken?

Ich nehme an, dass nach jeder Aufwühlung welcher Art sie auch gewesen sein mag, zuerst einmal Chaos regiert, bis sich Dinge beruhigt haben und sich dann auf ein einigermaßen richtiges Maß einspielen. Luther führte mit seinem Thesenanschlag den geschundenen Bauern und Bürgern  vor Augen, dass sie nicht nur von ihren Adligen  unterdrückt und misshandelt wurden, sondern selbst von ihrer Kirche! Kein Wunder dass ihre Erbostheit keine Grenze kannte. Alles was diese aufgewühlten Seelen dann wohl in ihrem Zorn sehen konnten, war nicht, wie Christentum eigentlich gelebt werden sollte, sondern wie sie all ihre Unterdrücker und Schänder loswerden könnten. Der 30jährige Krieg folgte schließlich und mit ihm die Hexenverfolgung – der Teufel in seinem totalen Element.

Für Atheisten ist dieser Film bestimmt auch wieder ein gefundenes Fressen, worin sie sich einmal mehr bestätigt sehen, dass Religion so ziemlich an allem Übel in der Welt die Schuld hat. Kriege im Namen Gottes gab es schon immer, die Mohammedaner, wie die Muslime zu meiner Schulzeit noch hießen, eroberten die Welt unter dem Motto „und willst du nicht mein Bruder sein, so schlag ich dir den Schädel ein!“ (- so wurde mir diese Tatsache in der Schule gelehrt und Muslime täten besser daran, auch zuzugeben, so wie es die Christen tun müssen, dass viel Unrecht und Leid im Namen Gottes bzw., Allahs geschah und noch geschieht!) und fanatische, muslimische Gruppen wollen jetzt die angefangene Arbeit der Welteroberung für ihren Glauben vollenden. Und sie stehen in ihrer Grausamkeit kein bisschen der Hexenverfolgung von damals hinterher, im Gegenteil.

Als gläubiger Mensch würde ich das tatsächlich so bezeichnen, dass der Teufel durch alle Jahrhunderte hindurch in irgendeiner Form gewütet hat. Gott ist Liebe und er liebt jede einzelne seiner Schöpfung, und wünscht sich, dass jeder einzelne zu ihm zurück ins Paradies kehrt durch ihren eigenen, freien Willen, seinen Sohn Jesus anzunehmen. Während im Teufel absolut nichts Gutes ist, keine Liebe, kein Erbarmen, nur Verachtung den Menschen gegenüber mit dem Ziel, ihn zu vernichten – so grausam wie er nur kann! Und er benützt Menschen dazu, die die falschen Entscheidungen in ihrem Leben getroffen haben, die der Anziehungskraft, der Faszination für das Dunkle, Üble, Böse, Gewalttätige, aber auch der Gier nach Macht, Reichtum etc. nachgegeben haben und deshalb immer mehr in diesen Sog hineingezogen wurden, bis sie ein hingegebenes Werkzeug für Satan wurden und sind.

Und er ist die hinterlistigste Kreatur im Universum. Wenn Leute nicht für Hexenverfolgung oder Tötung weil sie nicht einem bestimmten Glauben angehören oder ähnlichem zu haben sind, kommt er auf seine schleimige Art und fängt die Menschen mit sogenanntem Gutem. Schau dir die Welt an. All das sogenannte Gute, das unser Leben heute so angenehm und schön macht, und all die Leckereien, von denen wir uns nicht mehr trennen wollen, wieviel Gutes ist wirklich in ihnen? Trotz all der technischen Geräte, die das Leben erleichtern sollten, hat niemand deshalb mehr Zeit. Im Gegenteil, die Anzahl an Menschen, die unter Stress zusammenbrechen, häuft sich immer mehr. Genauso wie trotz fortschreitender Erkenntnis, Krankheiten wie Krebs, Leukämie, Diabetes und all diese Zivilisationskrankheiten, immer mehr zunimmt. Was ist das allgemeine Interesse in der Welt? Das Wohl des Menschen an erste Stelle zu setzen? Ganz bestimmt nicht. Ob Atheisten das hören wollen oder nicht, es ist so wie es in der Bibel steht: die Macht ist Satan übergeben und er wütet nicht nur unter vom Hexenwahn oder Glaubenswahn besessenen! (Lukas 4:5-7)

Aber dazu hat ja Luther die Bibel in unsere Sprache übersetzt, damit wir erkennen können, was Gottes Wege sind und was nicht!!!

Aber um das unterscheiden zu können, muss man sie lesen und natürlich eine innige Beziehung zu unserem Schöpfer haben, damit er uns durch den Heiligen Geist richtig leiten kann. Schauen wir zum Thema Hexenaustreibung doch einmal in die Bibel, was sagt sie dazu oder was finden wir dort? Jesus, seine Jünger, die Apostel und auch Paulus haben auch böse Geister aus Menschen getrieben, Menschen die vom Teufel besessen waren, befreit. Aber wie taten sie es? In dem Film erklärt ein Vater seinem Kind, dass durch die Verbrennung auf dem Scheiterhaufen die Seelen der Menschen geläutert werden, so dass sie rein von Gott in den Himmel aufgenommen werden können. Finden wir diese Anleitung so in der Bibel? Nein absolut an keiner Stelle – solcherlei unschriftgemäße Praktiken waren es, die Luther so auf die Palme brachte, dass er sich schließlich nicht mehr zurückhalten konnte und einfach öffentlich den Finger darauf zeigen musste!

Wie nun haben Jesus und die Apostel es getan? Sie beteten bzw., befahlen den bösen Geistern, aus den Menschen herauszugehen, damit diese Menschen befreit werden und ein besseres Leben leben konnten. Sie haben die Menschen nicht durch Folterqualen gehen lassen und sie schließlich durch Feuer „geläutert“. Nein, sie handelten in der Macht und Kraft des Heiligen Geistes, der Liebe ist und hilft und heilt, nicht höllisch quält und tötet. Wenn wir auf die Bibel schauen, bekommen wir die Anleitung, wie etwas gehandhabt werden muss. Und ein reines Herz zu haben, entscheidet jeder einzelne Mensch für sich selbst. Wenn es ihn danach verlangt, wird Gott es ihm auch geben. Aber er schnipst nicht mit dem Finger, um das geschehen zu lassen, sondern es ist Gottes Wort das uns reinigt. Wie Jesus sagte. „Ihr seid schon rein; ihr seid es aufgrund des Wortes, das ich euch verkündet habe. Bleibt in mir, und ich werde in euch bleiben…“ – Johannes 15:3-4

Es ist das Wort, das uns reinigt und wenn wir in Jesus bleiben – seinem Wort, das Jesus ist, Johannes 1:1,14 – werden wir mehr und mehr rein und auch mehr und mehr wie Jesus. Er wird immer mehr vollkommen in uns werden.

Das zeigt einmal mehr, wie wichtig es ist, das Wort Gottes zu lesen, es in uns aufzunehmen und danach zu handeln. So, lest es, lasst es in euch wirken. (Seht dazu auch die Kategorie Glauben aufbauen)

SCRIPTURE: “Do not think that I came to bring peace on the earth; I did not come to bring peace, but a sword. For I came to SET A MAN AGAINST HIS FATHER, AND A DAUGHTER AGAINST HER MOTHER, AND A DAUGHTER-IN-LAW AGAINST HER MOTHER-IN-LAW; and A MAN’S ENEMIES WILL BE THE MEMBERS OF HIS HOUSEHOLD.” Matthew 10:34-36

If you have ever read „The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe, the first in the great C.S. Lewis’s „Chronicles of Narnia“ series, you will remember that when the Pevensie children first hear about Aslan (Narnia’s type of Christ) being the Lion, they ask, „Is he safe?“ Mr. Beaver responds by saying, „Of course He isn’t safe, but He’s good.“ We need to examine Jesus in the same light.

There is a prevailing misconception of the purpose of the first coming of Christ. This misunderstanding and spurious view of Jesus can lead to developing a wrong view of the Father, a view which ignores or negates the justice and holiness of God. It is easy to only view Jesus as simply a tender, loving, gracious, forgiving, and gentle figure. He is all of those things, but He is not just full of grace but full of truth as well (John 1:14). The grace part is not a tough message to preach or to receive until it is combined with the truth that all men have sinned and will suffer eternity in hell fire unless they repent and turn to Christ as Savior and Lord. Grace that enables people to stay in their sin is not a threatening, divisive message, but grace that requires a change of heart and lifestyle according to God’s truth is a tough reality. The truth about Jesus is that, though He is a peaceful person Who desires peace on the earth as well, He did not come to bring peace on earth when He came the first time. It is common thinking that Jesus was born to bring peace on earth and good will toward men, but that is a poor translation of Luke 2:13-14. In the NAS, which is confirmed by the ESV, we read, “And suddenly there appeared with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God and saying, ‘Glory to God in the highest, And on earth peace among men with whom He is pleased.” In other words, the angels were not declaring that the whole earth would have peace because Jesus came the first time. They weren’t saying that Jesus was simply going to become everybody’s best friend without convicting them of sin. The only way to find peace, according to the angels in this heavenly declaration, is for mankind to first be reconciled to God such that He is pleased with them. In other words, the peace of God is only available to those people with whom God is well-pleased. This declaration should strike glory and hope in the hearts of those who love God, and it should strike fear into those who recognize that God is not well-pleased with them. The angels brought a message of division and distinction, separating the sheep from the goats and the wheat from the tares. Jesus will come back a second time to establish His own peaceful rule on earth, but until then, the gospel, though a unifying force for those who believe, is a dividing force between those who believe and those who do not.

Jesus says in Matthew 10:34-36, “Do not think that I came to bring peace on the earth; I did not come to bring peace, but a sword. For I came to SET A MAN AGAINST HIS FATHER, AND A DAUGHTER AGAINST HER MOTHER, AND A DAUGHTER-IN-LAW AGAINST HER MOTHER-IN-LAW; and A MAN’S ENEMIES WILL BE THE MEMBERS OF HIS HOUSEHOLD.” Luke 12:51-53, the parallel account, says, “Do you suppose that I came to grant peace on earth? I tell you, no, but rather division; for from now on five members in one household will be divided, three against two and two against three. They will be divided, father against son and son against father, mother against daughter and daughter against mother, mother-in-law against daughter-in-law and daughter-in-law against mother-in-law.” Jesus wanted His disciples and any listening to Him to understand that He came with a direct and express purpose, to seek and save the lost (Luke 19:10). That some people were lost indicates division, and the preaching of the gospel would delineate that division with the hope that some would see their lost state and turn to Christ. Christ did not come to accept the entire world in their sin but to call the entire world to turn from their sin. This is highly divisive, and Christ understood that faith in Jesus could and would rip families apart. This isn’t because becoming a Christian makes a person mean and nasty, for we are called to live peacefully with people as much as it depends upon us (Romans 12:18). However, sometimes people are so turned off by Jesus and the testimony of a life lived in holiness before Him (Hebrews 12:14) that they can turn to spite us because they spite Him. They don’t want to own up to the fact that they are hopeless, sinful, evil, and corrupt. It is a blow to their pride. Thus some, receiving our testimony as an aroma of death rather than an aroma of life (2 Corinthians 2:16), could become angry rather than humble. Many believers can testify to the ridicule and persecution that they have faced because they took a stand for Jesus Christ. For some, maybe they just get teased at family gatherings. For others, their family may put a death threat out upon their life. Jesus came to bring a sword, the sword of the Spirit, which is the Word of God (Ephesians 6:17), which divides between joints and marrow and judges the thoughts and intentions of the heart (Hebrews 4:12). The message of the gospel is the only hope the world has, and some will receive it while others will reject it. Some will go to heaven, and others will go to hell. The dividing factor is what they do with Jesus Christ.

Let us not be fooled into thinking that if Jesus was present on earth today that He would only be giving out hugs and free food. Remember, He also drove out the corrupt businessmen from the temple of God (Matthew 21:12-13), and He boldly condemned the leaders of the day in their hearing (Matthew 23). When we remember the glorious message that Jesus was born, we need to remember that He is not just full of grace but also of truth. His peace is available to everybody, but only those who love Him can receive it. He did not come to bring peace without conviction, but He rather brought a sword that saves. This is because He loves us, knowing that the only way to true peace is through first being saved. May our lives, by the grace of God, be the perfect blend of grace and truth, showing forth love and acceptance while never hiding the truth about sin, repentance, and holiness. Jesus was full of both grace and truth, and may such be the case for us as well.

So, like Aslan in the Chronicles of Narnia, Jesus isn’t safe, but he is good for those who put their faith and trust in Him.

Destroy the earth

This is the life that will ruin you for all other living. This life will break your heart 1,000 times & fill you with the inspiration to change the world. It will be a harder life than you ever dreamed you would live, but it will be more beautiful & satisfying than anything you have ever imagined. This is the life to which God is calling you.

Your relationship with God is real. You’re a hero. Do you believe that? Do you believe that you should stand alongside those people listed in Heb.11? Quite a résumé, isn’t it? Unfortunately, there’s more to the text – the Bible goes on to say that they were also: tortured, imprisoned, stoned, sawn in 2, persecuted, left destitute, & afflicted. But then the Bible gives them the ultimate commendation when it says that they were those ‘of whom the world was not worthy’ (v.38). Do you know that God views YOU that way? Do you know that He’s mindful of the price you’ve had to pay, & that Heaven is probably sick-&-tired of hearing Him brag about you? He loves you! His call to the other life was not a trick—there is more awaiting you! It will be more exciting than anything you can imagine. Your life will impact the world in a way that you’ll never understand until you see it from His eternal perspective in Heaven.” — Chris Jackson
